The Ohi’a Lehua tree…Part 1 The Ohi’a Lehua tree is found in Hawaii and grows on fresh lava flows. My husband photographed this particular one when we visited the Kilauea Iki crator in February. I love the way that it’s bright red flowers and green leaves stand out against the dark fresh lava. This beautiful flower in the incredible crator (check out videos of the 1959 eruption…spectacular!!) combines my two passions in life.
